There’s actually quite a bit going on in Garrett County in February! Maybe it’s our #TundraofMaryland tendencies or our “ski town” vibe in winter. Either way, our corner of Maryland is a hip and happenin’ place to be this time of year! Get out there and DO! 🙂

Local Events and Dates to Note

GARRETT COUNTY WEDDING PROFESSIONALS SOCIAL
Wednesday, January 6th at Black Bear Wine & Words

As leader of Garrett County Wedding Professionals, it’s only fitting that I include our first event of the year! 🙂 To continue to strengthen our local wedding community, we hold various socials and educational sessions throughout each year. Socials tend to be our most popular events and this time we’ll be wining and dining in one of Deep Creek’s coziest places, Black Bear Wine & Words. A curated wine + appetizer list has been prepared and we’re looking forward to plenty of networking! Wedding professionals working in and desiring to work in Garrett County are always invited. 

BULLET JOURNALING CLASS
Monday, February 11th at 6pm at the Grantsville Library

With encouragement from my Creative Aide Hannah, I tried my hand at bullet journaling last year. I liked the idea of creating whatever kind of notebook I wanted with whatever kind of format and pages I wanted. Sadly, it only lasted a month or so. But this idea of bullet journaling is a popular one and seems to be a growing trend! I think it’s pretty cool that one of local libraries if offering a class on it! May I also recommend a stop by The Cornucopia Cafe in Grantsville after the class!? It’s one of my favorite places!

CHOCOLATE & WINE TASTING
Saturday, February 16th from 12 to 7pm at North Glade Inn

Well this sounds just awesome! One of my favorite venues, North Glade Inn, plus chocolate and wine!? Grab your significant other or your friends and go see Erica and Justin, the new owners! Erica is actually making all the chocolates and no reservations are required! 

OAKLAND WINTER FEST
Saturday, February 16th and Sunday, February 17th in Downtown Oakland

I love a good reason to promote our quaint little downtown area of the County Seat, Oakland! This event includes ice carving demonstrations, ice sculptures, carriage rides, store specials, and plenty of dining options! The event is also free and very family-friendly. Let’s hope for snow and good weather for these folks!

2019 GOOSEBUMPS, GRAPES & GROWLERS
Friday, February 22nd from 6 to 10pm at Honi-Honi

This event is the official kick-off to the Deep Creek Dunk! Various wine and beer tastings will be available, along with live music. Entry is a $20 donation that goes directly to Special Olympics Maryland. I’ve not yet made it to this event, but I’m hoping my time will come soon! Maybe this year!? 🙂 Dunkers can also pick up their sweatshirt and wrist band so they’re ready for the next morning! 

DEEP CREEK DUNK
Saturday, February 23rd at 12 pm at Honi-Honi

I’ve not yet been to this event either, so I NEED to try to make it to Goosebumps or the actual Dunk, but I know it’s a good time for everyone that attends…even if they’re just a spectator! I have no interest in jumping in what will likely be a frozen lake (they’ll need to cut a giant hole in the ice for the dunkers, ha!), but it’s an awesome way for the community to come together for a good cause! The Dunk has a goal of raising $200,000 for Special Olympics Maryland. You can learn more at dunkmd.com.
