Why I love Deep Creek and want to make sure you have a great time here!
My ties to Deep Creek started long ago…
In 1974, my Grandma and Grandpap Smith bought a cabin on Marsh Hill Road here at Deep Creek Lake. My mom and her brothers began spending their summers at the cabin, learning how to water ski and enjoying “Buttercup” the family boat. Then in the late 80s, my siblings and I started doing the same.
My husband is originally from the area and now we live here! We’ve called Deep Creek and Garrett County “home” since 2013 and boy, it’s been one of the best decisions. I quickly became acquainted in our local business scene and with the many tourists that visit our area. Add that to the natural beauty, the people who live here, and the energy + activity we see in our small town community and BOOM, I fell in love all over again…just like I did when I was a kid.
Curious About Deep Creek? Start Here!
Deep Creek Lake is located in the center of Garrett County, the westernmost county in Maryland. We’re home to farmers, families, retirees, small business owners, second home owners, young and old folks. We’ve got an active county community with a busy events calendar and many successful non-profit organizations. We’re also a getaway destination to over 1 million visitors a year. Our spring and summer seasons come a little late, fall comes early and winter sometimes sticks around for too long. But we love it here!
When it comes to photographing groups and couples here at Deep Creek, it’s about more than just taking pretty pictures. Making sure you have a good time (outside of picture-taking) while you’re here is also a priority. Personalized Deep Creek Things To Do Lists are offered to all photo clients and include insider tips, local events, and restaurant and activity suggestions. Lots of Deep Creek info is also shared over at fortheloveofdeepcreek.com. Check The Deep Creek Tour Guide entries on the blog too.
Tolliver! Make sure you do the full 1.25 mile loop at Swallow Falls State Park so you see ALL THREE waterfalls, including Tolliver Falls, a sort of fairy tale-like part of the forest.
a hoodie! Even in the warmer months we get some chilly evenings. If you're coming in October and beyond, bring a hoodie and a jacket...and maybe some snow boots. #tundraofmaryland
The McHenry Beverage Shoppe has the biggest wine room I’ve ever seen and Deep Creek Beverage has a super convenient drive-thru. Be sure to tell owners Jim and Peg that I sent you!
The Rolling Pin Bakery in Accident makes some of the best. They're only available on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and go early because they sell out!
