FIRST, THE WEATHER.

We've been enjoying soooo much warmth and sunshine here at Deep Creek! The extended forecast shows continued warmth and sunshine BUT let me caution you...the forecast cannot be trusted too far out! 

So if you're looking ahead and starting to stress about the forecast that MIGHT be during your event or gathering or Deep Creek vacation, stop. Stop right now. As an outdoor photographer, I have learned you cannot believe the forecast until a day or two out, sometimes just a couple of hours out.

WE HAVE A ROCK MAZE.

And I visited it this past week! The bright green moss on the rocks, the sea of ferns on the walk to the maze...it's a pretty cool place! But it's hard to find, and it's not marked by any signs. If you're on Cranesville Road between Swallow Falls and Herrington Manor State Parks, look for the state forest sign and turn. There's a small side-of-the-road parking area and a clear trail through the woods.

AND DON'T FORGET...SWALLOW FALLS STATE PARK NOW REQUIRES RESERVATIONS ON WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.

I have no experience with it yet but you can read all about it here and link to where you'll make online reservations. Reservations can be made starting seven days in advance of a visit and they may be edited or canceled until 8 a.m. the day before the visit. 

Yes this feels like a big inconvenience but I've been to the park on a busy day when the overflow parking is overflowing and the visits become challenging.
