Using Pinterest For Your Wedding Photography

Who here is a Pinterest fan!?! I am! It became an online distraction early on so I’ve since limited myself to about 10 minutes at the end of each day. But boy, talk about a place full of beauty, ideas and inspiration! I use Pinterest for recipes, gift ideas and craft projects all the time and it’s been the reason for many recent successes like my two-ingredient pineapple cake and DIY t-shirt scarf. And how about you brides out there? I bet you are absolutely, positively loving Pinterest for your wedding planning! So many bouquets, dresses, cakes, decorations…and even wedding picture ideas. If you haven’t shared those wedding pictures ideas yet with your photographer, you’re probably planning on doing so at some point before the big day. But before you do that, let me share a little insight on how to use Pinterest for your wedding photography…

Pinterest is absolutely a great source for photography inspiration. In fact, I have multiple boards that include all kinds of pose, location, prop and clothing ideas for both my clients and myself. I used to want to recreate pictures exactly as I saw them, but then I realized I was crippling my creative eye as an artist. I was relying on what Pinterest showed me as a great picture to produce my own artwork. I wasn’t using my surroundings, my subjects and my emotions to compose the pictures as much as I should have. I had to learn to use Pinterest as inspiration instead of a limitation.

(From my “Remember When Photogging” Board on Pinterest)

So I challenge all you brides out there to do the same. Use Pinterest as inspiration for your wedding photography, but not a limitation. Share your boards with your photographers, but know that they’ve got their own style and artistic eye, and limiting that to the ideas on Pinterest may prevent them from exploring creatively and doing their best. Don’t expect your wedding pictures to look exactly like the ones you’re pinning on Pinterest, but understand that your photographer will be doing what you’ve hired them to do…capture your most special day through their camera lens as they see fit.

For my brides in particular, I welcome you to share your Pinterest boards with me. I’m glad you’re thinking ahead and getting excited when it comes to your wedding pictures. I’ll happily review your boards and study the pictures, and I’ll use them as inspiration for your big day. Maybe there’s a picture or two that we’ll recreate because of specific details, but leave the rest simply as ideas and inspiration. 🙂

Here are some wedding pictures that are results of Pinterest inspiration… (excuse my old logos and such…)

I’ve also used Pinterest as inspiration for engagement pictures…

So go ahead, pin away! But remember, let’s use your boards as inspiration! No need for copy cats. 🙂

Scenes and thoughts from deep creek

Well hey now! I thought for sure it had been more than seven months since I blogged last! Wish I could do it more…and plan to as soon as the new JFP website comes out.

I’m not sure I’m starting anything consistent here, just sharing some random thoughts and scenes from Deep Creek on this random Wednesday…

Jessica is amazing and she made us feel so comfortable! Having her capture our wedding was like having my best friend with me for every moment! Jessica's photos are fun, whimsical, and sophisticated!

We are not a stoic couple and did not want posed (or trying-too-hard) photos! Jessica was able to capture our personalities and the elegance of the day! I can't stop looking at our photos!

"Jessica is amazing!"

The best decision I could have made for my wedding was hiring Jessica Fike as a photographer! I was in a wedding prior that she was a photographer for and seeing how organized and easy and strategic she was to work with is what convinced me! She makes you feel so comfortable and helps teach you how to pose and smile and look so natural! She keeps you on schedule throughout your day and captures so much emotion in her photos. She is worth every penny plus more!

" the best decision."
