It’s no big surprise that there’s not a lot happening here in Garrett County in January. Weather is always a factor (it’s hard to plan when you know snow and ice are coming!), but I also think everyone is simply recovering from the holidays. There was SO MUCH happening here in December…we all just need a little break. 🙂

That also means there’s more reason to just do less and relax. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake make a wonderful place for simply getting away, grabbing a bite to eat, driving around to view the scenery, and do a little less at the start of the new year. So while this local events list isn’t huge, there are still a few fun things to consider for your calendar…

Local Events and Dates to Note

WELLNESS RETREAT AT HALEY FARM
Friday, January 18th – Sunday, January 20th at Haley Farm

I’m a little ashamed to say I have not yet visited Haley Farm. My friend Haley is who the farm is named after, and I’ve been friends with she and her mom since the early days of my Garrett County existence (now you know why I’m ashamed, ugh). I see them often throughout the county and they’re part of our Garrett County Wedding Professionals group (Haley Farm does small weddings!), so I really need to pay them a visit…especially since they’re located between the lake and Oakland! Their retreats include healthful meals and cooking demos, and personal and group fitness training…all lead by Haley who is a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor, yoga teacher, and wellness coach and nutritionist. I’ve had the opportunity to learn from Haley in casual, quick conversations and I’m confident a retreat with her would be well worth it!

SIP N PAINT AT NORTH GLADE INN
Saturday, January 26th, 4:30-6:30pm

Ever since new owners (and former JFP couple!) Erica and Justin took over North Glade Inn this summer, they’ve been adding so much fun and excitement to their event calendar! I’ve seen a whole line-up of things, but for this month, they’re having a Sip N’ Paint event where you can enjoy beer, wine and paint your drinking glass of choice! $30 per person and reservations are required. 

HONI HONI’S 50TH BIRTHDAY PARTY
Saturday, January 26th, 8-11pm at Honi

The Honi Honi Bar is a staple here at Deep Creek Lake, so it’s only fitting that their 50th birthday party be included in this month’s event list! Ever since I can remember, the Honi was always part of my family’s visits to the lake. It’s a family-friendly place, especially during the day in the summer, so we would enjoy pizza, backyard hanging, lakefront views, and playing on the elephant, whale and pirate ship. They’re celebrating their birthday with the band Undercover and I’m sure the place will be hoppin’! So happy 50th birthday, Honi! Deep Creek and all its visitors love you!
