Goodness gracious where in the world did March go!?! This is usually the month I dread because winter sticks around too long here in the #TundraofMaryland and I want sunshine and warmth to return…and nothing’s green or in bloom, so it’s just sort of ugly out. BLAH! Not the best month. BUT it absolutely flew by this year so YAY! April, sunshine, warmth, and some fun local events, here we come! Also, April is when the docks go in… 🙂

Local Events and Dates to Note

Comedy Magic Show
Monday, April 8th – Wednesday, April 10th at the Ruth Enlow Library Branches

Our local libraries continue to offer so many great activities and events for our kiddos! They’ll be celebrating National Library Week starting April 8th with a special magic show for kiddos and their families! All library branches will be hosting the show on three different days and I definitely plan to take my three!

2019 Garrett County Health Fair & Family Fun Festival
Saturday, April 13th from 8:30am to 12:30pm at Garrett College CARC

This event is in its 17th year and they’re celebrating super heroes and princesses as part of this year’s events festivities. Kids can come dressed in their favorite super hero or princess and expect to see some local “super heroes” visiting throughout the day. Hands-on activities, giveaways and plenty of health-related information will be available. The event is part of the Garrett County Health Department‘s efforts in promoting healthy family-oriented activities that assist families in helping their children learn and be successful in school, and it’s free!

Record Store Day
Saturday, April 13th from 10am to 6pm at Flipside Sounds

I know very little about vinyl records and the stores that sell them, but one of downtown Oakland’s newest businesses is Flipside Sounds (pictured above) is part of the national Record Store Day event and this is what they’re sharing: This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day. I have visited the store, along with neighboring business Sipside Lounge, and both offer such a unique setting in our little downtown area. Hit the record store then go have a drink!

Social Media Styling Workshop
Tuesday, April 16th at The Cornucopia Cafe

Garrett County Wedding Professionals and The Deep Creek Wedding are at it again on the event calendar! This workshop is all about putting together some professional-looking, stock pictures for social media. Allison of Paper Hearts Invitations is a master at styling and putting together beautiful flat lays for pictures and she’ll be sharing all her knowledge (and pretty styling props) with us! Wedding professionals welcome and fancy cameras not required. All you need is a cell phone to walk away with some social media-ready pictures for your business! We have room for 15 people and tickets are $25 each. And as a bonus, all participants, along with any other wedding pros, will be invited to stick around at Cornucopia (pictured below) for a social afterward where the first edition of the Deep Creek, Marryland magazine will be released!

EGGstream Easter Egg Hunt
Saturday, April 20th at 10am at New Germany State Park

1,000 eggs hidden among 10 miles of trails! I’ve done a wedding and some portrait sessions in this park, and it’s quite a gem here in Garrett County! Families are invited to hike the trails, hunt for eggs and collect some prizes! All you need to do is register at the lake house at New Germany between 10am and 3pm.
