Spring has finally sprung here in Garrett County and the event calendar is starting to pick up! I cannot wait to get outside on the regular and do and see all the things that this area has to offer. So here’s May’s round-up of my “local insider” initiative in spreading the goodness and helping visitors have a great time while in our corner of Maryland. 🙂

Local Events and Dates to Note

WINE & BEER TASTING WITH A TOUCH OF CLASS LIMOUSINE
Every Saturday at Deep Creek Lake, 12-4pm

I’ve not yet done this but it sounds like a lot of fun! My friends at A Touch of Class Limousines offer tours that visit four local restaurants and stores and a tasting is included at each stop. Mountain State Brewing, DC’s Bar & Restaurant, Black Bear Wine & Words, and Deep Creek Beverage are all on the list and transportation is included. This could be especially great for groups of friends visiting the lake! Any of my friends want to do it this summer? 🙂

ARTISAN & EPICUREAN FAIRE
Saturday, May 19th in Grantsville, 11am-6pm

Local artisans and craftsmen, regional producers of specialty food products, beer & wine, live music, and activities for the kiddos are all part of this event. Happening alongside the Grantsville National Road Festival, the faire takes place in one of my favorite parts of the county. The collection of The Cornucopia Cafe, Spruce Artisan Village, Grant’s Mercantile and the Casselman Bridge create such a unique and inviting atmosphere. This event is the perfect addition!

MEMORIAL DAY AT HONI-HONI
Monday, May 28th at Deep Creek Lake, 1-5pm

I’ve been a fan of the Honi-Honi since I was little. My family visited the lake every summer and going to the Honi was always a special treat. It’s lakefront, big-backyard, play-in-the-sun atmosphere is just so appealing. And if you can add food, drink and music to that mix, you’ve got the perfect lake party! The Honi-Honi helps Deep Creek officially kick off summer on Memorial Day each year. They have a band scheduled and if the weather is right, there will be plenty of opportunity for dancing on the deck, climbing the elephant, and sitting on the whale for a photo. 

THE BELLE SOIREE
Wednesday, May 30th at Chanteclaire Farm, 7-10pm

Ah, this event…it’s gonna be a big one! Sponsored by Garrett County Wedding Professionals and The Deep Creek Wedding, and hosted by Chanteclaire Farm and The Fete Companies, this party is going to celebrate and show off the area wedding community, AND help Chanteclaire reveal their new look! It’s a “fancy” theme and all guests are encouraged to dress up. (Ballgowns and tuxes are acceptable. 🙂 ) We’ll be enjoying appetizers, drinks, music, and other special activities. Part of the proceeds from the event will also go to GEMS, a local organization set to empower young women.
