THE WEATHER

We have zero natural snow right now. Okay, we have some, but it’s packed down and variable with random patches here and there and the bulk of it is found in heavily wooded areas.

40s and rain for the next two days, in the 20s on Saturday then Sunday-Wednesday 40s-60! I don’t like to believe the long-range forecast but the first week of March is showing 50s. Is winter weather over? Let’s remind ourselves we’re talking about the #TundraofMaryland here…

THIS JUST IN

On Pointe Cuisine and Consulting offers some of the best catering/special occasion food options at Deep Creek! Chef Jason came to my house on Friday so I could snap some pictures of him prepping and building an elevated charcuterie grazing table (photo below) and wow, I’m impressed! He has options available for groups of 20-30 and more (weddings included) and I highly recommend you give him a call!

Deep Creek’s newest pizza place is looking for a new jingle! Fox’s Pizza Den (their second Garrett County location) shared on Facebook yesterday that they’re giving away free pizza for a year to the winning jingle entry. Find more details here.

THINGS TO DO

Reading Buddies at HART for Animals is just one of the neatest and sweetest things! Wednesdays 3-4pm and Thursdays 3-5pm kids are invited to read to the adoptable dogs and cats. My youngest and I have gone three times and it’s always a joy. Call HART to reserve your spot – ask for Cari!

Still plenty of snow at Wisp Resort – get your tickets online ahead of time if you’re planning to go over the weekend.

Looking for fish on Fridays through Lent? Ace’s Run and St. Peter’s in Oakland has meals!

Just over the county border – Western Maryland Scenic Railroad! I talked with Brett in marketing about how I might help them get the word out about their unique train experiences…mystery dinner rides, the ice cream train,  the spring fling express…they’ve got a lot to offer! Depending on where you are in Deep Creek + Garrett County, MD, it would be a 20-60 minute drive to the Cumberland train station.

LOCAL EVENTS

It’s Dunk Weekend! First, the new Community Dunk is happening today, Thursday, Cool Schools Dunk on Friday and the main Dunk on Saturday 11am to 3pm! It all takes place at Honi-Honi, which will be packed this weekend, just a warning (UNO’s included). Community members, middle and high school students, and people dressed in costumes will plunge into the chilly waters of Deep Creek Lake to raise money for Maryland Special Olympics.

Goosebumps, Grapes and Growlers at Honi-Honi – Friday, February 23rd 6 to 9pm (also a fundraiser for Maryland Special Olympics, $20 donation for wine and beer tastings)
