Deep Creek Lake Photographer
Who here listens to or watches Gary “Vee” Vaynerchuk? My friend Leo, who is also a talented videographer, first introduced me to this guy. I was warned that he can seem a little “crazy” and has no filter, but I was assured I’d learn some business and life lessons from him. And Leo was right.
Here’s a picture of Leo…and I…in action at a wedding. 🙂
I’ve been tuning in to Gary Vee’s wise words for a couple of months now and usually find myself listening and watching while running on the treadmill. During the Ask Gary Vee Show, people call in or ask a question via social media, and he answers. Everything from how to work from home with kids to the latest social media trends, even how to have a conversation with your parents about quitting college. People seem to ask this guy everything, and he doesn’t mind giving some honest answers about everything and anything. (I often wonder what one question I would ask him if given the chance…)
The most recent episode that I watched included an interview with Seth Godin, best-selling author, entrepreneur, marketer and teacher. Seth mentioned finding one thing you’re good at or enjoy, and only doing that in an effort to stick out. If you Google “Seth Godin”, the first quote that pops up in his profile is “In a crowded marketplace, fitting in is a failure. In a busy marketplace, not standing out is the same as being invisible.” One thing that Seth does that most people, or at least those that are entrepreneurs, might find odd is that his blog is his social media activity. His Facebook account is simply a repost of his blog and his Instagram account is managed by someone else. He’s good at blogging, and he does it every day, so he’s decided to “stick out” by sticking to that one thing. This inspired me.
I’m going to TRY to blog every day.
Or at least every work day. 🙂
I’m not going to quit posting new things on Facebook and I’m not going to let someone else manage my Instagram, but I am going to try this blog thing. I enjoy writing and blogging, and think I do an okay job at it (it should also help SEO 🙂 ). I’m not sure how long I’m going to do this, maybe until some people notice, but I’m not going to make a big announcement about it. Heck, I’m not even sure what I’ll write about. Maybe I’ll write about “the norm”;weddings, portrait sessions and my three kiddos. Or maybe they’ll be about a random thought or one pretty picture that I took of Deep Creek Lake. But maybe this will help me stick out. Not a lot of people blog every day, right? A lot of people post to Instagram every day, multiple times a day. But not many are rushing to post new blog content as frequently as they can.
And because I’m a photographer with a serious need to include a fair number of pictures in every blog post, here’s a pretty bridal bouquet in honor of the start of spring!
Elyse’s bridal bouquet from she and Michael’s July 2015 wedding at The Hayloft. Check out their full blog post here!
If you’re seeing this blog post and just happened to fall upon it, let me know and follow along as I continue to write. 🙂
