I love Small Business Saturday! I love that the retail world recognizes the “smaller stores” that might not get a ton of attention on Black Friday, or even throughout the holiday season. It’s the “smaller stores” that typically light up downtown areas and dress the streets with pretty signs and unique products. The same stores that are run by people in our own towns and neighborhoods. They’re people just like you and me, and we should support them as much as possible!

Maybe I also enjoy Small Business Saturday because I’m a small business! Anytime I have the opportunity to either purchase from or refer to a small business, I definitely do! If I didn’t have people doing the same for me, my small business wouldn’t be where it is today, so I like to pass that support on to my fellow entrepreneurs. It’s also really cool that others, along with myself, are able to follow their dreams, be their own bosses and sell really cool things. Yay for small businesses!

I’m also going to highlight two new small businesses! First up, The Yellow Penguin! My friend Kendra owns this cute little biz and I had the pleasure of getting to know it a bit more at our MOPS vendor open house last weekend. She not only hand makes clips, bows, ties, leg warmers, and more, but she also has three girls under the age of five! I’m not really sure how she does it all, but I think she’s some kind of super woman. 🙂 I bought a pair of leg warmers for Ally’s birthday outfit and she’s making me a custom bow to match. The next small biz that I recently found is RageTrader Vintage! I found them at a craft show a couple weeks ago and was soooo impressed! They’re tagline is “vintage reborn” and they have some seriously unique stuff. Ever seen old typewriter pieces made into rings? How about pocket watches made into necklaces? They’ve got ’em! I just love unique handmade goodies like that…it’s amazing the creativity some people have! I didn’t buy anything from them yet, but I have a feeling I’ll be making a purchase sometime in the future.
