Family pictures do not need to be done standing straight up and down in front of pretty trees at a nice park. While that’s perfectly okay and something we can spice up with dad jokes and inventing gross flavors of ice cream, we can really kick things up a notch here at Deep Creek by hopping on a boat instead.

I first did some family boating photos with the B Family years ago when their oldest boy was learning how to water ski. They were spending many summer days on the water with family, so it made sense to use it as the scene for their photo session. Thankfully, there was enough room for me on the boat, too. 🙂

The colorful life jackets and swimsuits, the casual, no-fuss, summer lake vibes of just being with the family on the boat and enjoying some time in the water…it’s like we’ve wrapped Deep Creek up and put a bow on it. Perfecto!

Whether you have your own boat or are renting one, we can make the above happen very easily! Just plan a boat outing like you normally would complete with towels, snacks, sunglasses, and toys for the water and I’ll come along for the ride. And before we start the engine, sitting at the dock and capturing some quick moments can be done as well. Some of my favorite summer photos are of kids splashing their feet off the dock.

If you don’t want to actually get in the water, that’s okay! We can still capture some good summer lake vibes while staying dry. It’s also the perfect time to whip out the sunglasses…
