I don’t work on Thursdays. Those days are spent with two of my kiddos, Natalie and Jack. Sometimes things go well, and sometimes not. But no matter what, I always try to have some activity planned for us (because I’m terrible at being in the house all day). And no matter what we actually do, Thursdays always seem to be one of my most overwhelming days of the week.

My off day. Overwhelming. Goodness.

I think it’s because my brain is too often in “work mode”. My work is at home, my family is at home and a lot of my life is at home. So much at home, and so much responsibility with work. Jessica Fike Photography is just me. Me and my computers, me and my cameras, me and my editing and emailing skills. No one else. I have lovely second shooters who work with me on wedding days, but they aren’t with me during the day-to-day tasks (maybe I should hire one of them!? 🙂 ). So things get a little overwhelming because I have to do it all. 

And on Thursdays none of all of that gets done when I’ve got the kiddos with me. Sure I can sneak in a Facebook and Instagram post…and maybe even a few emails if they’ll entertain themselves without crying and fighting and needing a snack and tugging at my pants (oh and nap at the same time…what a luxury!). But overall, no real, good work gets done.

So I think about everything that didn’t get done on Wednesday and everything that I’ll need to do on Friday. Combine that with the dependency of Natalie and Jack who are one and three years old and like I said, it’s overwhelm.

But I continue to try to stay positive about it and shut off as much of my work brain on Thursdays as I can because this time with the kiddos is precious and I shall enjoy it as best I can! Like today, I enjoyed it with my good friend Katie and her little one-year old Bear (we secretly hope he and Natalie might date and then make us in-laws someday…hehe). They came over for a playdate and Katie and I enjoyed coffee and conversation while the littles took a million toys, puzzle pieces and lego blocks out of the toy boxes and threw them across the living room. It was a good time and I’m thankful they were here to occupy my day off. 🙂

I took some pictures with Katie and her little family of three this past fall so they’re going to serve as the pretty picture filler in this post!
