One thing I love doing within my business is sharing Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County info with my clients. Living just five minutes from the lake means there’s a lot to see, a lot to do and a lot of people visiting our county every season. Spreading the word about all that goodness and helping visitors have a great time while in our corner of Maryland makes my heart happy! So consider this a little piece of my “local insider” initiative. 🙂
Local Events and Dates to Note
Mountain Fresh Farmers Market in Oakland
March 31, April 14 and 28 – 11am to 1pm
Inside the historic downtown area that includes shops and restaurants (highly recommend for anyone coming into Garrett County for more than a few hours), there’s a large, open-air market for farmers, bakers and artisans to share their goods. I started regularly visiting at the end of summer and always walked away with an abundance of food items, including a bag of homemade M&M cookies that were Jack’s favorite.
The Second Shooter Workshop
April 7th
While this event isn’t happening inside Garrett County, it’s still worth sharing because I’m one of the hosts! Carrie White, Kristin Hurley and myself are inviting photography hobbyists and second shooters to join us at nearby Fernstone Retreat in Farmington, PA for a day of learning and shooting. We’re providing instructional time in the morning and our wedding planning friend Katie Gyorko is putting together a unicorn themed styled shoot for the afternoon. We’re stoked!
Western Maryland Wedding Expo
April 15th
My friend Melissa of Farfalla Photography is putting together one of the biggest wedding shows our corner of Maryland has ever seen! I’m excited about weddings happening here in Garrett County and this event will be a great way for planning couples to learn more about what our mountains and talented vendors have to offer. Happening in neighboring Allegany County, just a short drive down 68.

May 6th
Mosser Meadow is helping me with this unique mini session event and I’m so excited about the collaboration! Portrait sessions for couples and families inside a greenhouse! Lush, green plants, vibrant flowers as the backdrop and baked goods, homemade lemonade and a hanging basket included. 10 sessions available, and Mosser is just minutes from Deep Creek.

Well hey now! I thought for sure it had been more than seven months since I blogged last! Wish I could do it more…and plan to as soon as the new JFP website comes out.

Jessica is amazing and she made us feel so comfortable! Having her capture our wedding was like having my best friend with me for every moment! Jessica's photos are fun, whimsical, and sophisticated!
We are not a stoic couple and did not want posed (or trying-too-hard) photos! Jessica was able to capture our personalities and the elegance of the day! I can't stop looking at our photos!

The best decision I could have made for my wedding was hiring Jessica Fike as a photographer! I was in a wedding prior that she was a photographer for and seeing how organized and easy and strategic she was to work with is what convinced me! She makes you feel so comfortable and helps teach you how to pose and smile and look so natural! She keeps you on schedule throughout your day and captures so much emotion in her photos. She is worth every penny plus more!
