Firewater Kitchen & Bar is a well-known, lakefront drink + food establishment at Deep Creek Lake. The boat ramp at Deep Creek Lake State Park is the only public ramp at the lake. While one is for drinks and the other is for boats, I’ve used both for engagement session locations.
Deep Creek Lake State Park is a general go-to for photos at the water because it’s the only public lake access at the lake. But with special permission, photo time can also be done at other water spots, like Firewater…
I’ve only done one engagement session at Firewater (this can be planned with permission from Jeany at Firewater). It was April, so it was slow season, no leaves in the trees and the docks weren’t in the water yet. But it was calm and quiet and we had the shoreline to ourselves.
Sheri and Russ enjoyed a drink on the patio then we hit the water!
Now for a look at the boat ramp shoreline! Both of these engagement sessions were done in the prime of foliage, during two different fall seasons.
I met Alaina and Nick for a morning session and the leaves were especially colorful. The water level is very low in fall, which means more shoreline exposure. For the area just beside the ramp, that means big rocks to climb on, giving a little more New England coastline-esque vibes, in my opinion…
The trees and wooded spaces at the boat ramp area have some really great fall color every year, including State Park Road which is symmetrically and beautifully-lined with big, tall trees…
And lastly, Alexis and Ryan. A softer fall look, still with the rocky shoreline, but more of the actual ramp to capture the mountain vista…
This post of inspiration was created for Mackenzie and Alex who are marrying in the backyard of the lakefront family cabin, but are looking for a different shoreline for their engagement session. They’re getting married on a Thursday with a very small group of people and I’m PUMPED!
Hi Mackenzie and Alex! I hope this was helpful! 🙂
Scenes and thoughts from deep creek
Well hey now! I thought for sure it had been more than seven months since I blogged last! Wish I could do it more…and plan to as soon as the new JFP website comes out.
I’m not sure I’m starting anything consistent here, just sharing some random thoughts and scenes from Deep Creek on this random Wednesday…

Jessica is amazing and she made us feel so comfortable! Having her capture our wedding was like having my best friend with me for every moment! Jessica's photos are fun, whimsical, and sophisticated!
We are not a stoic couple and did not want posed (or trying-too-hard) photos! Jessica was able to capture our personalities and the elegance of the day! I can't stop looking at our photos!

The best decision I could have made for my wedding was hiring Jessica Fike as a photographer! I was in a wedding prior that she was a photographer for and seeing how organized and easy and strategic she was to work with is what convinced me! She makes you feel so comfortable and helps teach you how to pose and smile and look so natural! She keeps you on schedule throughout your day and captures so much emotion in her photos. She is worth every penny plus more!
