get to know ME more!
Hi Thank you so much for visiting the blog! Whether you're looking for more pretty pictures, inspiration for your wedding day, or some useful Deep Creek info, I hope you'll find a comfy seat, maybe a cup of coffee, and read on!
I met up with Kristin this past weekend for a mentor meeting that was jam packed full of info. We started the meeting by talking about photography style, which was a challenge because, like I explained in Monday’s post, I don’t think there’s one clear answer when it comes to the way you find your style. But after reviewing some of Kristin’s portfolio, I think it was pretty clear that she does have a photography style (yay!), which, in my opinion, is a big plus for her. I’m hoping my review was a little push forward for her confidence and ultimately the making of her official business.
Aside the heavy topic of finding a photography style, we also talked about starting a business and how branding and a strong web presence are two very important pieces. We also discussed tackling wedding photography and lighting equipment, and before I knew it, we were three hours into our three-hour meeting! But that’s what happens when you get me talking about photography and running a business and add an aspiring photographer who has good questions! Kristin’s next moves will be to “put herself out there” with a simple branding concept, a website and/or blog and make her business official in West Virginia.
We ended the mentor meeting with some head shots (and Kristin did pretty fabulous!). I challenged myself by only taking my 135mm 2.0 lens, shooting in mid-day sun and using a location with many distractions including a parking lot, walking trail and playground. These mentor meetings definitely challenge me and push myself to learn as a photographer as well. They’re a win-win. 🙂
What do you notice right away in this picture? I notice Kristin’s beautiful, genuine smile. 🙂
You’d never guess we were right beside a parking lot, the back door area of a restaurant and a well-visited playground.
Oh I just love when someone can go from super smiley to super soft with their look! Great job, Kristin!
I think I might have been saying “boogers and butt cheeks” at this moment. 🙂
Kristin’s got a super cute car and her new favorite color is yellow, so it was definitely appropriate to get a few shots with the Cooper!
Then we found some lovely diffused light in the parking lot…
Great smile, Kristin!
I have one mentor meeting in March and another in April. My spring calendar is filling up fast and before I know it, I’ll be in the thick of wedding season with an even busier calendar. So if you’re interested in a mentor meeting, email me at jessica@jessicafikephotography.com ASAP so we can get you scheduled…because after May/June, I may not have room for these meetings on my calendar. Happy mid-week, y’all!
Scenes and thoughts from deep creek
Well hey now! I thought for sure it had been more than seven months since I blogged last! Wish I could do it more…and plan to as soon as the new JFP website comes out.
I’m not sure I’m starting anything consistent here, just sharing some random thoughts and scenes from Deep Creek on this random Wednesday…

Jessica is amazing and she made us feel so comfortable! Having her capture our wedding was like having my best friend with me for every moment! Jessica's photos are fun, whimsical, and sophisticated!
We are not a stoic couple and did not want posed (or trying-too-hard) photos! Jessica was able to capture our personalities and the elegance of the day! I can't stop looking at our photos!

The best decision I could have made for my wedding was hiring Jessica Fike as a photographer! I was in a wedding prior that she was a photographer for and seeing how organized and easy and strategic she was to work with is what convinced me! She makes you feel so comfortable and helps teach you how to pose and smile and look so natural! She keeps you on schedule throughout your day and captures so much emotion in her photos. She is worth every penny plus more!
