Garrett & Blair’s Deep Creek Proposal Story

I didn’t need to hide for this Deep Creek proposal photography. I didn’t even need to pretend to be a random photographer just taking pictures of the beautiful waterfalls.

That’s because the rain ruined our original plans! Garrett was going to treat Blair to a picnic on top of a giant rock in front of Muddy Creek Falls where they had their first date. I was going to place myself shortly after, near that giant rock, and just act like a photographer out enjoying a day of photo-taking in the forest. Their parents were going to enter the scene, surprise Blair with a hello and that was going to be Garrett’s signal to get down on one knee.

He decided to propose at dinner instead, still accompanied by a surprise hello from their parents, and opted for pictures the next day when it wasn’t raining.

It was snowy and it was cold while we took pictures, and we definitely got wet standing in front of the raging, misting Muddy Creek Falls. Proposal session turned engagement session was a great success, though…
 
 
The two pictures above are my top favorites from their session. The first one has water smudges present because of the heavy mist coming from the waterfall. They both have a more “film-like” style of edit – softer, less contrast, not-as-yellow or warm in color.
 
I’ve been drawn to a different style of photos recently, so I’m experimenting. I haven’t nailed this new potential look yet, so Garrett and Blair received two sets of images – one with the new style, one with my old style…which isn’t even “old” because I’m still using it and it’s current. And I plan to do this, or something like this (maybe it’s just the “old” style sprinkled by some of the new) with all other current clients until my artist brain figures out what it needs to do.
 
Okay, back to Garrett and Blair and that cold, misty, snowy day in the forest…

So many possibilities all around at Swallow Falls State Park! They have a great pavilion for gatherings, including weddings, an overlook space that you can reserve for ceremonies, and the forest is beautiful in all seasons. Highly recommend if you need a space for gathering or for photos.
