Weather, events, things to do, insider tips and info for February 8th-February 14th

THE WEATHER

We have zero natural snow right now. Despite some of the marketing photos you may see circulating online, we currently have no snow at Deep Creek. BUT it looks like snow will return as early as Tuesday next week.

In the meantime, we’re experiencing very mild weather. It’s been 40-50 degrees and sunny since this past Saturday (February 3rd) and it’s going to continue through the weekend. Friday – mid 50s and sun, Saturday – 50 and some rain, Sunday – 45 and sun.

Don’t be freaked out by the rain in Saturday’s forecast. Maybe it won’t rain all day? Maybe come Friday evening or Saturday morning, the forecast will change and the rain will have moved out? Either way, don’t let the mention of rain in the forecast get you down. You can still hike in the rain, ski in the rain and visit a Deep Creek restaurant or two in the rain. Or you can take it as an opportunity to sit inside and relax.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU

Q: Where can we find a public mountaintop scenic view of the lake?
A: I believe the answer is nowhere. There are no spaces that offer a mountaintop view of the lake that are public. UNLESS you’re visiting Wisp Resort and find the one spot on their mountain where you can see a small chunk of McHenry Cove.

Q: What town do most people work in that live here?
A: I don’t have exact numbers, but if I had to guess, Oakland would be the zip code where a majority of our residents work. McHenry and Grantsville also hold a lot of local jobs and some people travel to neighboring Cumberland, MD and Morgantown, WV areas to work as well.
