When we initially bought our land two years ago, I didn’t really notice the portrait session-worthy backdrop on which we’d soon be living. We have six acres of open grass and friendly woods, and are surrounded by mountain views. We have an awesome view of colorful, long sunsets. In early and late summer, our grass turns golden and hay-worthy for a our neighboring farmer friends. Our woods include a pathway through lush tree cover and a clearing perfect for fires, hanging out and family portraits. All of that…that’s what’s in my backyard.

So this past spring, I decided to invite people to our home in Garrett County, MD for portrait sessions. I offered “Mommy & Me” sessions for Mother’s Day and was very happy with the results. Lots of moms and their loving kiddos (and some husbands, too!) laughing, walking and smiling…in my backyard. Here’s a sampling of what we captured (plus a couple extra sessions, too)…

I love the variety throughout these pictures. The woods, the field, the open grass, the sunsets…it really is a great place for portrait sessions. 🙂

I’ve decided to continue taking pictures at our home with a portrait sessions series called “In My Backyard…”, and it’s starting this fall! Garrett County is beautiful in the fall and I’m hoping our trees will give us a colorful backdrop for the season. Here are the details for the first “event” of the series…

– 45 minutes of session time

-$200 plus sales tax

All sessions will take place in late September or October.

I invite families and couples to come to our home for portraits and enjoy what’s outside. We can roam the grass and woods without interruption…and maybe you can stick around to see what Garrett County has to offer? If you’ve never been, you should definitely explore!
