Who Says?/Breaking the Rules: Floral Centerpieces

As I was putting together ideas for my new blog last year, I knew I wanted to include a series on inspirational/unique ideas that I was finding at my weddings. I was excited to see some of my brides “breaking the rules” last year because I’m all about being different and standing out, especially when it comes to your big day! So in an effort to encourage other brides to think outside the box and break the rules, here’s a little post on floral centerpieces.

Who says your floral centerpieces MUST be single arrangements? What about multiple arrangements per centerpiece?

I photographed Jackie and Kendall’s wedding at the super unique Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, MD in December of last year. Some brides steer clear of December because they are afraid of cold temperatures, Christmas and snow. But not Jackie and Kendall! They were hoping for snow and weren’t afraid to say no to a Christmas theme or decorations. So alongside a unique date and unique venue, they also had unique centerpieces at their reception…

As soon as I stepped into the reception room to photograph the details, I noticed the centerpieces! Not because they were super colorful or super tall, but because they were different. They were multiple smaller arrangements of flowers placed together in the center of the tables. Together, the smaller arrangements made bountiful floral centerpieces and were a pleasantly surprising twist on the norm.

So I asked Jackie for a little insight into the inspiration behind her centerpieces:

“I HATE centerpieces!!! I think that they get in the way of conversation and spending time… the most important parts of a get-together, and a wedding is a time to reminisce, mingle, and have fun! I wanted the tables to look beautiful, but not take away from the togetherness of the evening. I envisioned an all white tablescape and I wanted it to be winter wedding without Christmas (it’s a wedding, not a Christmas party!!). So the flowers used were all ones that you wouldn’t associate with Christmastime.” – personally, I think the non-Christmas flower idea is brilliant!

“I love the look of individual vases that aren’t matchy-matchy so the event coordinator from The Delaplaine and our florist mixed and matched what they had to achieve the look! I also LOVE candlelight, it’s inviting, comforting, and romantic… so the more candles the better! White tealights did the trick. With the help of glassware from The Delaplaine and my florist, it was pretty inexpensive.” – the candles were definitely a nice little touch to add more oomph to the overall look of the centerpiece.

Here are some additional views of the centerpieces, but this time you get a better idea of what the overall look was for the entire room. I also LOVED the paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling!

So what do you think? Maybe it’s an idea for your upcoming wedding? Or even an event you’re planning…bridal shower, anniversary party. Consider breaking the rules and trying something different. 🙂 If you love it, pin it! There’s a “pin it” button at the very bottom of the post that will allow you to pin these pictures to your Pinterest boards! Hoolleerrr!!!

My now husband went out and retrieved branches from his dad’s land in WV and crafted those the week before our wedding!!! He was excited to have a man chore for the wedding :o) One of my most fav DIY parts of our wedding, he also made our place card holders out of little wooden wafers.

Scenes and thoughts from deep creek

Well hey now! I thought for sure it had been more than seven months since I blogged last! Wish I could do it more…and plan to as soon as the new JFP website comes out.

I’m not sure I’m starting anything consistent here, just sharing some random thoughts and scenes from Deep Creek on this random Wednesday…

Jessica is amazing and she made us feel so comfortable! Having her capture our wedding was like having my best friend with me for every moment! Jessica's photos are fun, whimsical, and sophisticated!

We are not a stoic couple and did not want posed (or trying-too-hard) photos! Jessica was able to capture our personalities and the elegance of the day! I can't stop looking at our photos!

"Jessica is amazing!"

The best decision I could have made for my wedding was hiring Jessica Fike as a photographer! I was in a wedding prior that she was a photographer for and seeing how organized and easy and strategic she was to work with is what convinced me! She makes you feel so comfortable and helps teach you how to pose and smile and look so natural! She keeps you on schedule throughout your day and captures so much emotion in her photos. She is worth every penny plus more!

" the best decision."
